July Meeting: Dyeing Yarn

Guild member Andrea McGee showed us how to dye yarn at our July meeting, and she presented an informative and entertaining program. She began by showing us her hand-dyed yarns and talking about the dyeing proces, and we then got a chance to practice some creative dyeing techniques. Nelda Marecki and Wendy Hermes also showed us their own hand-dyed yarns and gave us dyeing tips. We had fun and miraculously managed to keep the dye on the yarn and not the table or floor. Click here for more pictures of our dyeing activities.

August Market Faire Is Almost Here

Our 2009 August Market Faire was such a success that we decided to have another one this year.  Our August 14th meeting will be the market faire, and Cathy Tyree, the coordinator, has already lined up some great vendors.  Participating vendors include knitting stores, handmade glass jewelry, pottery and yarn bowls, earrings and pins.  We will begin setting up at 9 a.m., and the Faire will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  EVERYONE is invited, and you do not have to be a guild member to participate in this event.  Please come!  We'd love to have you join us.

April: Knit by the Sea Retreat

Our retreat coordinator, Marybeth Hawn, did a wonderful, fantastic, AWESOME job planning our spring retreat to Virginia Beach.  A good time was had by all!  Click here to see pictures of the activities.

What's New This Month at RCK??

The Files section of the members' Yahoo group contains the following:

*Handout for Dyeing links and techniques
*Pictures of the yarn dyed at the July meeting
*Minutes from the last Board meeting

Our Charity committee reports that baby blankets are needed for babies with heart problems. These blankets will go to a group called "Little Mended Hearts", and the blankets should be approximately 18" by 24" in size and made of cotton or acrylic.  Helmet liners are also still needed. You can find a link for the helmet liner pattern on our Charity page.
