April Meeting: Knitting with Silk Hankies

fran3fran2Fran Freimark showed us an unusual technique, using special silk hankies.  You basically create your own yarn with the silk, and it knits into a beautiful fabric.  Who knew???  Fran is a wonderful instructor and very experienced knitter, and we are grateful to have her share her expertise.  Thanks, Fran!

March Meeting: The Bohus Knitting Tradition

DSCF4654_edited-1

Donnie Statzer brought us the story of Bohus Stickning, an historical knitting tradition from Sweden.  The sweaters, hats, mittens, and scarves in his beautiful display were awe-inspiring. Thanks go to Donnie and his friends for sharing their beautiful work with us.  We also saw a wonderful video explaining the roots and history of this tradition, and Donnie’s expert knowledge of the techniques was evident.  Click here to see samples in this exquisite display.

February Meeting: Feel the Love Charity Knit-In

LindaH2Linda Hague, who is our coordinator with From the Heart, led our annual Feel the Love charity knitting program. She brought patterns and yarn to supplement our own supplies, and we spent some great time together, creating hats, scarves and more for local charities.  Although charity is not our primary focus, we donated an amazing 327 knitted or crocheted items to From the Heart in 2012.  Martha Wood (click here) set the pace by donating 89 hats!  We also collected food items to donate to Ginter Park Methodist Church, which works with the Richmond Food Bank to distribute food each week.  We appreciate the hard work and generosity of our members.
